Coastal groups
The National Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Strategy for England Glossary, published by the Environment Agency, defines coastal groups as: ‘Partnerships composed of the key partners in coastal management in a given place. Principally, they include the coastal managers from maritime local authorities, port authorities and the Environment Agency. Other interested organisations, such as Natural England and English Heritage, will also be members. There are seven strategic coastal groups in England, and they provide a forum for showcasing local initiatives and for strategic coastal management, principally by the Environment Agency developing shoreline management plans (SMPs)’.
The seven strategic coastal groups of England include:
- East Anglia Coastal Group.
- North East Coastal Group.
- North West England and North Wales Coastal Group.
- Severn Estuary Coastal Group.
- Southern Coastal Group and SCOPAC.
- South East Coastal Group.
- South West Coastal Group.
